Cell Phone Policy
New district policy regarding cell phone use
Dear Hodgkins families and students,
As you may have previously read in an email from our superintendent, our school district is responding to a growing concern from parents, educators, and professionals that students are spending too much time on their personal devices. The negative impact isn't only on their educational experience, but also affects mental health, attention and engagement, safety, and social and emotional wellness.
Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, Westminster Public Schools will enact a new Student Policy which requires students to power down and secure their personal devices during the entire school day (also known as bell-to-bell). I encourage families to review the policy carefully and share with their student(s) the expectations for how cell phones and other personal communication devices will be managed during the school day next year at Hodgkins Leadership Academy.
What this looks like at Hodgkins
-
During the school day, cell phones and other personal communication devices will need to be turned off and kept in backpacks. If your student does not have a backpack, please inform our office staff and we will find one for the student.

How families can support from home: For this to be fully effective, we need family support. You can help by explaining the benefits of this change: improved student mental health, improved engagement, reduction in cyberbullying and discipline issues, and increased connection and community. Your support of these objectives will go a long way in student success as we make this transition!
We've also sent out a letter with more details about this policy. If you missed it or need a refresher it's linked below for you.
If you have questions or concerns after reading the Student Policy information on our website, I am available to answer questions at sfrank@wps.org.
Thank you for your continued support. Everything we do aims to create positive learning environments, a safe and engaging school for our kids.
Sincerely,
Sarah Frank
Principal, Hodgkins Leadership Academy
